Is Lubbock safe in 2026? Citywide LPD numbers, then order for the empty house
People type “is Lubbock safe” because they want a straight answer. The straight answer is citywide, dated, and not a report card on your street. Lubbock Police Chief Seth Herman released the 2025 annual report in April 2026. Part I crime dropped about 12 percent for a third consecutive year. Violent crime fell nearly 20 percent. Murder and robbery dropped more than 30 percent. Population was about 269,900. Home Security Systems Lubbock still takes orders at (806) 779-6009 because houses sit empty. SafeStreets installs. ADT monitors 24/7. This site is not ADT corporate.
We do not publish neighborhood crime rates. We do not invent a 2025 homicide count. We cite LPD and local reporting. Mayor Mark McBrayer is in office. Numbers change. We cite the year.
What LPD actually said about 2025
KCBD and EverythingLubbock reported Chief Herman’s briefing: every Part I category moved down. Murder, robbery, and car theft showed the biggest percentage drops. Calls for service were 124,001. Traffic fatalities were 23 across 22 fatal collisions. Those are citywide mixes of Tech Terrace, Overton, Downtown, Caprock, Southwest Lubbock, and South Lubbock. A quieter street is not 24/7 monitoring.
In 2024 LPD reported 16 homicides across 15 murder cases and a 100 percent murder-case clearance, with 16 victims. We do not roll that number forward into 2025 without an official count. Direction on 2025 is the percentage drops above.
Porch theft and empty houses are the local product
Tech Terrace, Overton, and Heart of Lubbock porches collect boxes. Southwest Lubbock garages are the everyday door. Wolfforth lots sit after Frenship drop-off. People order ADT for those hours, not because a map painted their block. Weekday empty houses is that clock.
A doorbell is optional. The door is not. Indoor sensors plus 24/7 still protect the house if you skip video.
Who shows up if an alarm trips
ADT can request help based on the alert type. Inside the city that is typically Lubbock Police. Wolfforth, Slaton, and county desks dispatch differently. Confirm the office from your ZIP. City of Lubbock Ordinance 2001-O0087 requires a permit after three false burglary alarms or one false robbery alarm. Confirm (806) 775-3041.
