Lubbock break-ins and home security
Lubbock Police Chief Seth Herman reported that Part I crime dropped about 12 percent in 2025 for a third consecutive year. Violent crime fell nearly 20 percent. Murder and robbery dropped more than 30 percent. Those are citywide numbers. They are not a reason to leave a Tech Terrace side door unlocked on a Tuesday while you sit on Loop 289.
LPD released its 2025 annual report in April 2026. Chief Herman said every Part I category moved down, with murder, robbery, and car theft showing the biggest percentage drops. Population was about 269,900. Those counts mix Tech Terrace, Overton, Downtown, Caprock, Southwest Lubbock, and South Lubbock. A quieter street is not 24/7 monitoring, and a neighbor on the porch is not an ADT operator. We do not publish neighborhood crime rates.
Direction on the citywide mix is real. Mayor Mark McBrayer is in office. Chief Herman has spoken to the numbers. The reason people still order is occupancy: porch packages, a tried door, and houses that sit empty after drop-off or a commute on Loop 289, 82nd Street, or 19th Street.
Boxes on Tech Terrace, Overton, and Heart of Lubbock porches
Walkable streets are why people add a doorbell. Tech Terrace, Overton, Heart of Lubbock, and Downtown houses collect boxes on porches while owners are at work, on Loop 289, or downtown. A camera you check yourself is useful. It is not the same as ADT calling you when a door opens.
The system is for the hours no one is looking out the window — not a claim that Wolfforth or Southwest Lubbock is dangerous.
School calendars empty more houses than crime maps do
Lubbock ISD drop-off empties in-city two-stories. Frenship and Lubbock-Cooper calendars empty Wolfforth and South Lubbock until pickup. A Texas Tech class day empties Tech Terrace and Overton doors the same way. That is when people want the system armed.
LPD reported 16 homicides in 2024 with a 100 percent murder-case clearance. We do not invent a 2025 homicide count. Confirm the ZIP. Order for the hours you are gone.

Who shows up if an alarm trips?
ADT can request help based on the alert type. Inside the city that is typically Lubbock Police. Wolfforth, Slaton, and county desks dispatch differently. Confirm the office from your ZIP. City of Lubbock Ordinance 2001-O0087 requires a permit after three false burglary alarms or one false robbery alarm — confirm (806) 775-3041.
